"It’s not just a grant -  it’s a pathway.”

MCF provides more than financial support. Each grant comes with a three-year commitment to help Māori and Pacific artists prepare for and succeed at WOMEX.

The Three-Year Pathway to WOMEX:

  • Year 1: Scope & Familiarise – Attend WOMEX as a delegate, observe, and make first connections.

WOMEX & Global Leadership:

  • The Pan-Indigenous Network was formed from the Inaugural hui convened by MCF in 2018. MCF has continued to have presence annually at WOMEX, including remote panel dicussions and in-person networking sessions. From music fiturisms to UNESCO’s International Year of Indigenous Languages and declaration, PIN continues its work in the world music scene.

  • 2019 Samurai Jury: Hinurewa te Hau was chosen as one of the WOMEX Conference Samurai amd is the first person from the Pacific to serve on this panel. Hinu is an active member of WOMEX and has championed many Aotearoa delegates to be included in their official programme as speakers or music contributors.
